What Do You Buy for the Man Who Has It All?

By: Sarah McIntosh, Project Coordinator, Independent We Stand

Dads are notoriously difficult to shop for. Either they’re the type to buy what they want when they want it, or they don’t let on to wanting anything at all. Whichever category your dad falls into, give him the ultimate gift this Father’s Day – the gift of community.

When you shop at a locally owned business, your money has more than three times the economic impact than if you were to spend it at a national chain store.* According to the National Retail Federation, Father’s Day spending in 2012 alone was expected to reach $12.7 billion.** Imagine what an impact that money could have if it was spent locally.

So, this Father’s Day, why not spend your hard-earned money on Dad at his favorite local business? Take him out to eat at an indie restaurant. Buy him a book from the family-run bookstore down the street. Treat him to that new STIHL chain saw, blower or trimmer he’s been eyeing at the local hardware store, because nothing says “I love you, Dad” like outdoor power equipment purchased from an independent dealership!

Finding a locally owned business in your area is easy. Just visit the website for Independent We Stand and use the “buy local” search engine, or download the free mobile app. STIHL Inc. sponsors this movement to support their local independent dealerships across the country and to reinvigorate the economy from the ground up.

To join the movement or to find locally owned business in your area, visit www.independentwestand.org. If you don’t find your favorite indie business, encourage them to join; it’s free!
